Bridges 2025 Excursion

The Evoluon and the Textile Museum
July 18, 8 am–6 pm

Excursion tickets are $65 USD. The Excursion is sold out. But there may be another partial excursion opportunity. We will announce these plans at the conference. See you soon!

The ticket price includes transportation by bus, admission to the Evoluon and the Textile Museum, several tours and lectures, and two coffee/tea breaks, but does not include lunch.

We only have space for 100 people for the Excursion this year. Please purchase your tickets as soon as you know you wish to participate. We cannot add additional buses this year.

The Evoluon is the most iconic building in Eindhoven. It is featured on the cover of the Bridges 2025 Proceedings. It can be considered a piece of art in itself: architectural art at a large scale. When the Evoluon was commissioned by the Philips Corporation in the 1960s as a home for its museum on technology and engineering, its construction posed great challenges. During our visit to the Evoluon, there will be a lecture by Chris Noteboom about the unique design and construction of the Evoluon. Chris is a structural engineer and lecturer at TU Eindhoven. We will also have a guided tour of the Evoluon, including the basement (this includes some stairs), led by Faas Moonen, former Philips architect and retired professor at TU Eindhoven. After a coffee/tea break, you will have some time to explore the Evoluon and the Next Nature exhibition, including some artwork by mathematical artist Koos Verhoeff.

For the lunch break we will stop at the Piushaven in Tilburg, a revitalized former industrial harbor area transformed into a vibrant, mixed-use district with a strong focus on waterfront living, dining, and recreation. It’s known for its lively atmosphere, scenic harbor views, and a blend of historical charm with modern amenities. The area features a variety of restaurants, cafes, shops, and event spaces. Note that lunch is not included in the Excursion ticket.

The Textile Museum is “a dynamic and creative working museum located in a former textile factory in Tilburg. It is the only place in the world where textile design, art, fashion, industrial heritage, and innovation come together. The museum’s unique collection consists of textile design, fashion, visual arts and industrial heritage masterpieces.” The Textile Museum houses a variety of textile equipment, including both historical Jacquard looms and state-of-the-art machines. Visitors can see working looms, knitting machines (both flat and circular), and other tools used in textile production, as well as a laser laboratory and facilities for embroidery and tufting. It also has a diverse collection of textile art, including contemporary textile art, works from the mid-20th century to the 1980s, and jewelry and objects made of textiles. At the Textile Museum we will have a lecture by Jos Klarenbeek, an independent designer and researcher whose work explores the intersection of mathematics, science, and design. After an afternoon coffee/tea break, we will have time to explore the museum before departing for TU/e.
